The Journey Project offers legal support and navigation to individuals who have experienced sexual violence. As an ongoing partnership between the Public Legal Information Association of NL (PLIAN) and the Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Centre (NLSACPC) we are working to enhance supports and responses for survivors of sexual violence in Newfoundland and Labrador within the legal system. What services are available?


The Sexual Violence Legal Support Service
Persons who meet the eligibility criteria can receive up to 4 hours of free legal advice from a practising lawyer in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Legal Support Navigation
The Journey Project employs three Legal Support Navigators, who are available by phone, email, text, video conferencing, and in person to provide trauma-informed support, general legal information, referrals for legal advice, and connections to other community resources. The Legal Support Navigators can also meet in-person with clients, including to provide accompaniments and other supports, where practicable.


Who can access these services?

Anyone who is at least 16 years of age, has experienced any form of sexual violence, and who is either currently living in Newfoundland and Labrador or experienced sexual violence in our province can access our Sexual Violence Legal Support Service. This might include, but is not limited to recent or historical sexual assault, sexual harassment, non-consensual distribution of intimate images, sexual interference, or sexual exploitation.

This service is available Monday-Friday, 9am-4:00pm.

Where are these services available?

Legal Support Navigators are based in St. John’s, but our services are available to all regions of Newfoundland and Labrador. We are available in person in the St. John’s area but will travel to other regions of the province for in-person support whenever practicable.

Trauma-Informed Training
The Journey Project team has developed training specifically for stakeholders in the justice system on trauma-informed practices for working with survivors of sexual violence. This training is available for lawyers, judges, police officers, court staff, probation officers, Victims Services workers, or others working within the justice system. The training is also available for other service providers outside of the justice system who may work with or provide support for people who have experienced or are at risk of sexual violence.
