NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR’S CHILD PROTECTION SYSTEM LEGAL PRESENTATIONS
This two-year project is a new initiative aiming to provide legal information on Newfoundland and Labrador’s child protection system, its legislation, and court processes. It commenced in January 2017, following up on the needs assessment consultations that took place in 2016. Building on these consultations, the project is progressing according to schedule with its proposed curriculum having been completed in June 2017.
Next steps to bring this project to fruition include following up with partners in Indigenous communities, gathering feedback on proposed materials to support the sessions and, translating them into three Indigenous languages: Inuktitut and two dialects of Innu-Aimun. Sessions are anticipated to be delivered in Conne River, Sheshatshiu, Natuashish, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Nain, and Port Hope Simpson.
This project is being funded by the Law Foundation of Ontario, through their Access to Justice Fund.
