Job Posting – Project Coordinator, Newcomers Legal Rights Project

The Public Legal Information Association of NL (PLIAN) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Coordinator to continue our Newcomers Legal Rights Project, which aims to provide legal education and support to newcomers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing an ongoing initiative to develop and deliver plain language legal information and education materials for refugees, immigrants, international students and other newcomers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. They will also be responsible for conducting outreach with and developing legal information resources for employers throughout the province who are employing newcomers.

The Project Coordinator’s work will include research, writing, and editing of plain language legal information materials and the development and delivery of legal presentations in various locations around the province. As a result, regular travel will be required in this position to locations including Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Corner Brook, and other locations to be determined.

The Project Coordinator will also be involved in supporting PLIAN’s other core services and project work, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting in responding to client inquiries via PLIAN’s Legal Information Line and Lawyer Referral Service
  • Research, writing, and editing of other plain language legal materials and resources
  • The delivery of legal education presentations
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Experience in education and/or in delivering public presentations
  • Research, writing, and editing experience
  • Experience working with refugee and immigrant populations
  • Experience in the non-profit or community sector
  • A legal background, including legal education, is a preferred qualification but not required. An understanding of Canadian and NL law and legal procedures would be a significant asset in this position.

The contract term is to start as soon as possible and will continue until June 30, 2022. If project funding allows, the contract could potentially be extended, but this cannot be guaranteed at this time.

The salary for the Project Coordinator position is based on an annual salary of $53,500. The Project Coordinator is also entitled to a generous benefits and flexible leave package, including health and dental coverage.

The position will be based in PLIAN’s office in St. John’s.
