PLIAN, with support from the Access to Justice Steering Committee for Newfoundland and Labrador, is planning to hold a series of pop-up legal assistance clinics at several locations in St. John’s during July and August.
PLIAN intends to offer legal assistance and support to clients of several different agencies and organizations in the St. John’s area, including the Gathering Place, Choices For Youth, Memorial University’s Internationalization Office, and other locations to be determined. Exact dates and times for the legal clinics are also to be determined, but will be held between late-July and mid-August.
We are seeking volunteer law students, articling students, and practicing lawyers to assist with these clinics. Our intention is to have articling students and law students to conduct initial intake with clients at each clinic, identify legal issues and questions, and provide general legal information. As needed, the students would be able to consult with a practicing lawyer on site who could provide guidance to the student and legal advice to the client where appropriate.
Law students and articling students who have not previously participated in pro bono legal clinics will be asked to participate in an orientation session, at a time and date to be determined.
To register as a volunteer for the Summer Legal Assistance Clinics, please email PLIAN at email@example.com. If you have any questions or want to find out more information, please contact Kevin O’Shea by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (709-722-4745).
