The Public Legal Information Association of NL (PLIAN) is seeking a dynamic and independent student to work for us this summer, in the position of Youth Justice Camp Coordinator. The hired student will be primarily responsible for organizing and facilitating at least two Youth Justice Camps in St. John’s. An additional camp may be held outside of St. John’s if funding allows, so some travel may be required for the position. The student will also be responsible for fundraising for the Youth Justice Camps, organizing guest speakers, recruiting volunteers to assist in the camp, and any other duties required to carry out the camps in July and/or August.
The student will also be expected to assist with other ongoing PLIAN projects, including assisting in answering client inquiries through PLIAN’s Legal Information Line and Lawyer Referral Service; working with PLIAN staff to organize and facilitate several pro bono legal clinics in the province; researching, developing, and editing legal information publications; assisting in the development and delivery of legal information presentations; supporting proposal development for future projects; helping manage PLIAN’s social media accounts; assisting with office and administrative tasks where needed; and completing other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and Office Manager.
Preference will be given to a student currently pursuing a law degree, or some level of legal education. Interest in the law is a requirement. The duration of the position is 10 weeks, based on 35 hours a week, with an anticipated start date of June 4, 2018.
All those interested in applying for this position are asked to submit a CV and covering letter to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 11, 2018, with interviews to follow soon after.
