PLIAN is Hiring!

PLIAN is seeking an independent and dynamic student with an interest in law to work with us this summer as a Legal Information Officer. This position will involve assisting PLIAN’s staff with responding to client inquiries for legal information and lawyer referrals; research, writing, and editing for new publications intended to explain the law to the public in an accessible, easy-to-understand manner; assisting in the development and delivery of legal education presentations in the St. John’s area; and helping manage and update the PLIAN website and social media sites, among other duties and tasks that may arise during the summer.

 

Candidates must be returning to post-secondary (either undergraduate or graduate studies, including law) in the fall. Successful candidates will be those who have the ability to adapt to a variety of tasks, interact with the general public in a professional and courteous manner, conduct independent legal research, writing, and editing, and have a general interest in legal work.

 

The position is for a minimum of 7 weeks, with the possibility of a longer term if funding allows. The salary for the position is $12/hour and the position is full-time, 35 hours a week.

Supreme Court Self-Help Kits

We have just added several new publications to our site – self-help kits for Family Law matters prepared by the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador. These kits provide a comprehensive, step-by-step guide for several family proceedings, including applying for a sole or joint divorce, starting an originating application for child support, spousal support, custody, or access, and responding to an application for child support, spousal support, custody, or access.

Call for Volunteers

PLIAN is currently seeking 3-5 dedicated individuals to volunteer with our organization. Volunteer tasks can include, but are not limited to: research and writing, data entry/statistics compilation, mailing publications, assisting at events, and other tasks as required. At PLIAN, we aim for our volunteers to gain valuable experience and learn about the justice system in a practical way, all in a relaxed environment.

PLIAN asks volunteers to commit to 2 hours of volunteer work per week.

Healthy Relationships Workshop in Conne River

French Youth Justice Day

PLIAN, in partnership with the Fédération des Francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador, is offering a Youth Justice Day in French on Friday, August 22nd. This session will allow youth to learn about the law, enjoy a tour of Supreme Court, and more! Refreshments and transportation to court are provided at no cost.
